SMM January 17 News:
With the 2025 Chinese New Year approaching, SMM recently communicated with die-casting zinc alloy enterprises regarding their holiday plans. This survey covered a total of 26 enterprises, with a combined capacity of 1.0077 million mt/year, affecting zinc consumption of 54,585 mt. According to SMM's communication with enterprises, many companies plan to start their holidays around January 20. From the perspective of orders, high zinc prices in H2 2024 caused prolonged price pressure on downstream end-user enterprises. The year-end pullback in zinc prices provided favorable conditions for inventory stocking and order fulfillment. Additionally, the year-end "rush for exports" triggered by the "tariff rumors" under Trump also improved orders for some enterprises. Due to the recovery in orders at year-end and in January, the previous inventory of enterprises was consumed, leading to a postponement of the originally planned holiday period. Based on the information gathered from enterprises, the holiday duration during the Chinese New Year varies between 8 and 52 days, with an average of 22 days, down 8.4% YoY from last year's 24 days. SMM will continue to monitor the subsequent operating conditions of die-casting zinc alloy enterprises.
